Bill Brittain, Hamblen County Trustee
Appointed to office in January 1994, Brittain is serving his third four-year term. The Trustee is county government's chief revenue officer. The Trustee's office collects property taxes, invests idle county funds and records the receipt of various other local, state and federal revenues.
Accomplishments:
- Manages an investment program which increased interest earnings by nearly 50%.
- Maintains property tax collections near 99%.
- Accepts City of Morristown tax payments at County offices
- Led the effort to open a County office in the College Square Mall for tax collections, automobile registration, and drivers license renewal
- Helped develop funding for three capital improvement plans totaling $45 million without new tax revenue
- Led a statewide effort that enabled all Tennessee county trustees to accept credit card payments and post their tax information on the internet
- Presently serving as President of County Officials Association of Tennessee (COAT)
- Was named "Tennessee Trustee of the Year" in 2005
- Served as President of Tennessee County Trustees Association in 2003
- Serves as Chairman of the Morristown-Hamblen Library Board of Trustees
